We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped with the “club photo day” and railroad field trip on October l6th. Mark Dawson was the point man, directing everyone where to start the photo process. It was wonderful to have Shirley there; she looked radiant as usual. Ansel did a great job arranging cars for the “shoot”, while Duane and Elora set up the continental breakfast tailgate area.
Thank you Mark and Nonie for driving our Anniversary car. Paul, Sue and Scott were the people responsible for the pictures on our web site; Paul has the group pictures and individual shots available for purchase. Paul also printed some very nice certificates of appreciation that we gave to the fire department and the speedway.
It was Doug and Roxanne’s suggestion to include the run to the garden railway. Brent and his “GPS navigator” Marilyn did their usual terrific job of leading the caravan to the restaurant for lunch and then on to the railroad. The restaurant, “The Food Connection” had very tasty food, and on one inside wall was a mural 40 feet long depicting the citrus growing era years ago in the Riverside area. Elora gave a super rolling commentary via our radios on the history of old Riverside. The backyard railroad display was amazing, about 1/3 acre of scenery with approximately 3000 feet of track layouts. The entire three-car garage is filled with a HO train layout, complete with Corvettes parked by uh, well …ask Elora. It is the creative project of Roger and Faith Clarkson.
After the railroad field trip, some of us had to find an ice-cream shop. Sure enough, Baskin-Robbins fit the bill. We even attracted another Corvette owner in the parking lot. To end the day, we stopped at Stidham’s house for Pizza and time to talk about future events.
Our thanks to the Speedway, the San Bernardino County Fire Department, and fire engineer Mike Bell, our friend and VP of Wild West Corvettes for taking the photos from the top of the fire truck’s aerial ladder. Last but not least, a big thanks to everyone who attended. It takes all of us working together to make our club fun and successful. And most of all thank you God that IT DIDN’T RAIN!!!
