A touch of clouds and a little rain could not keep the
enthusiastic members from the Poppy Rally. Six hearty members, meet at
Denny's for the drive out to Antelope Valley
.
Look at the left side of the photo, It's the don't get wet Pewter Hard Top of
this writer. Yes folks, I actually drove it in damp conditions! At a
few minutes after 7 AM we were off to the freeway praying to the Sun God to come
out and join us. As we reached the transition of the 210 and 5 freeways a
bit of sprinkles dotted the windshields. Ernie, with
tongue-in-cheek, said he and Martha were going home, obviously for my
benefit. We all arrived in good form and were blessed with sunshine.
It was going to be a good day.
The line up
We started the rally utilizing different radios to see how they would work out. These were the family type radios that we seem to see every where. Several of us had the ear buds (fit's in the ear) and the reception was very good. All in all they worked out quite well. Ernie had the new XFM radio in his Corvette along with GPS, radar detection, and a number of other goodies. We sure won't get lost this trip.
The rally was good, actually better than good and a whole lot of fun. After about three house of driving with some of us going back and forth we finally arrived at the finish, we all checked in. Now for the long wait to see how we faired. As it turned out we didn't have to wait that long as there were only five Corvettes left on the course when we finished.
The raffle got under way and three of our members won prizes, Scott & Nancy, Ernie & Martha and Randy & Glenda. Then came the 50/50 for the poker rally. None other than Scott & Nancy won and collected a very nice sum of cash. Now onto the rally winners...
PVCA really took home the honors, while we did not get club participation (missed buy one car) we took the following awards

1st Place - Ansel & Joan
2nd Place - Randy & Glenda
4th - Place Bill & Janice (first rally ever!!!)
5th Place - Scott & Nancy
So all in all a very good outing for Pomona Valley Corvette Association and it's members. /Ansel
