On the morning of August 8th four couples in their shining
C5's meet at the Double Tree to start an adventure to Colorado. This
would be the Garvey's, the Erickson's the Boyce's and the Aguilar's.
Ernie's red Z06 was sporting new graphics and wheels.

The above pictures show parking at the motel, dinner and
of course putting the cars to bed.
Thursday found us driving through some very beautiful
scenery in Utah and Colorado. The roads were great except for the
construction !*&*%$.

Naturally our speeds were kept within the limits of the
law... well almost!
On our arrival in Frisco we had to do the usual things
such as signing up for the autocross which was to be run on Friday morning.
As Ernie did not have the tires he wanted to use it left defending PVCA's
honor to Scott, Mark, Ansel and Nonie. That is not a misspell, Nonie
was going to compete. More on the autocross later as we had to get
ready to jump on the shuttle busses for dinner and stuff.

Dinner was held in a lodge with the table center piece
being little Corvettes with flag's. The evening ended with a lovely
sunset and being with good friends.

It was a short and very tight course. We were in the
parking lot of the local high school. Average times were in the mid
thirty seconds. So you can see it was over in a hurry. No one in
our group placed but it was fun. Amongst the guys, we didn't do well as
the Z06's cleaned our clocks. Mark was the best of our group.
Nonie was able to improve her time from the first run to the last run by 10
seconds. I think she is hooked! Do we hear Z06!
From racing to lunch with some pictures of the area.

Late Thursday night our group grew as Dyane, Elora, Randy
and Shelly arrived.

The were too late to register for the autocross
but they had other ideas. After the autocross in Friday we all took
off for a tour of Coors and a special dinner.

After visiting the Coors plant we visited with Shelly's
father at his liquor store. The restaurant was next
door and owned by good friends of Shelly's father. It was all German
including the beer The food was
superb. It was Randy's birthday and Shelly had a surprise birthday
cake plus gifts.

Saturday morning started with a sleepy breakfast.
You'll note that the guys and gals are at different tables. After wandering back to our cars we were
off on a rally that was to take us through some of most beautiful country.
Because we were driving so much I was unable to get many pictures.

At Independence Pass we were 12,095 feet high and on the Continental Divide.

Later that night it was again off to the shuttle busses
for a trip to Copper Mountain Resort. Here we would enjoy dinner and
the awards.

top award for costume and was as happy as could

Here's Mark and Nonie getting a 5th place award for their
finish in the Funkana.

The following pictures are of two C5's with the following
exception, the first picture is of an original C1 used for comparison. The white
C5 is a roadster and the red C5 is a Z06. These are the retro look
going back to the '53 C1. They are made in Colorado and are not cheap!

The following pictures are from the Show and Shine which
was held on Sunday morning. There were well over 350 Corvettes and
some of the nicest one's you will see anywhere. Also on Sunday we were
joined by more of our PVCA members. The Goff's, the Gresswell's and
the Caroccia's. Our group has grown.

The wining car is... upholding PVCA tradition!

After the car show we trudged down to the marina at Lake
Dillon for a two hour boat ride. I think many of us were expecting a
wine and cheese type thing, nope we got something else. Because of the
size of the group we were given six different boats. Some of the boats
were pontoon and some were little speed boats. We assigned our own
Captains. Ernie was the Captain of his pontoon boat and I was lucky to
Captain a little speed boat. Instead of the aforementioned wine and
cheese we got beer soda and chips. One thing about Lake Dillon, the water
level is down 58 feet. You can see many of the docks standing high and
dry. Anyway back to our boating day. I had a total of six
people on the boat including myself, the pontoon boats held about 16. We slowly left the marina and
once past the 5 MPH marker I opened up the throttle and out to the lake we
went. We went all over the lake
covering every inch of the shore line. This took about an hour so I
thought lets go find Ernie and the rest of the gang.

Little did we know that our boat would die and leave us stranded in the
middle of the lake. After floating around for awhile with unsuccessful
attempts to restart the engine we dug out the only cell phone among us.
It belonged to a very nice couple but the battery was almost dead, maybe
good for one call. We were able to contact the marina and they would
send help. Help was not to arrive for another half hour. With
all the water around and plenty of beer you can guess what was beginning to
happen. No restrooms in sight. We were able to drift to shore
and several members of the crew beat a hasty run to the woods. After
the crew from the marina got us started again we headed to the docks.
Everyone's cars were gone! Gosh we were early and wondered where
everyone had gone. Well we found them at the local pub and that is
when we found out what happened... "They sunk".
They never even got out into the lake. Their story goes that our wake
and the wake of another boat capsized them, yea right! Nobody drowned
or had to swim although Bonnie was ready. They were towed back to the
docks and they decided they had had enough.

Monday morning was a time to say goodbye to Frisco and to our friends.
Ernie and Martha where driving home and Dyane, Elora, Randy and Shelly were
taking a Southern route home which would take them a week. Our group
of six cars were headed for Deadwood, South Dakota.
"Beyond"
to be continued
