"Beyond Frisco" the continuation

Monday morning came with the remaining six Corvettes poised for a quick getaway.

Actually we were on the road by 7 AM heading for Deadwood, South Dakota.  Our route was to take us North is search of breakfast and on into Rocky Mountain National Park.  We first had to do some backtracking due to road *&*%$^# construction.  This caused a bit of a delay but we were able to get the lady's fed and prevent a mutiny

Driving through the Rock Mountains National Park was stunning.  We stopped at the Alpine Visitor Center for a rest and allow the gals to do some shopping.  The altitude here was around 12000 feet and it was cool.  Randy and Scott had a relaxing moment before we continued on our journey.

Remember the "Shinning"  well we stopped at the hotel where it was filmed in Estes Park.

We were finally on the open roads headed North.  In the late afternoon we arrived in the town of Deadwood.  Of interest are an old gold mine where you can try "panning for gold", several historical museums, a cemetery containing the graves of Wild Bill Hickok (who was killed here) and Calamity Jane, and many historic hotels and saloons. The city was founded following the discovery of gold here in 1876. Reached by railroad in 1891, the city developed as a trading center for the northern Black Hills region. In 1989, limited -wage gambling was legalized in Deadwood to rejuvenate tourism.

When we left Deadwood the next day at noon we headed South to Mt. Rushmore.  If you have never seen the Presidents carved into the mountain it is something everyone should see in person.  I hope my pictures can give you some feeling of the dramatic images we were able to see.

From Mt. Rushmore it was down to see Chief Crazy Horse.  The project began in 1947, when sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski (1908-1982) arrived in the Black Hills to accept the invitation of Lakota chiefs to carve Crazy Horse. The nine-story-high face of Crazy Horse was completed and unveiled June3, 1998. Work is now underway on the 22-story-high horse's head.

The day was getting late and the six Corvettes headed West for Cody, Wyoming.  In Cody the plan was to visit the Buffalo Bill Museum

Everyone was so pooped that the museum probably did not get as much of our attention as it should have.  At least Ken was in there for quite some time.

After a good nights rest and a stale donut we were off to Yellowstone and Jackson Hole.

The above pictures were taken at Yellowstone Lake and the bird is an Osprey.

We only drove through Yellowstone as the plan was to spend two days in Jackson which would give us a day to drive back into Yellowstone.  We did not realize at the time that the 100 mile distance between Jackson and Yellowstone would have to be traveled at 45 MPH!

Here we are in Jackson and yes amongst those flowers is Mr. Clean.  The arch at this small public park is entirely made up of Elk antlers and there is a similar arch at all four corners of this park.  I know what your thinking and I'm sure all the antlers were found in the forest lying on the ground...

In the evening we all attended a wonderful dinner play of Oklahoma and not only was the entertainment fantastic but so was the food.

The next morning, I think it's Friday, we all split up into different groups, doing different things.  Bonnie and Heidi would spend the day shopping, Brian and Ken would go river rafting while Scott and Nancy would have a quite day looking around.  Three cars made up of the Goff's, Garvey's and the Boyce's chose to head North back to Yellowstone,  This required us to travel through the Grand Teton National Park to get to Yellowstone.

Our first stop in Yellowstone was to see "Old Faithful"

It's lunch time so we headed on up to the Lake Inn on the edge of Yellowstone Lake.

As we continued our trek through Yellowstone we came upon a heard of Bison.

When these big boys cross the road everyone stops.

The next few shots are scene shots of the Snake River, Yellowstone Falls and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

These next couple of pictures are of some hot springs,

and so we bid Yellowstone National Park good bye.

Back in Jackson and time to prepare for the trip home.

It was a fast and furious adventure that we enjoyed but the time had come to an end and so good bye it is until the next one!
