Well its all over until next year; Another Big Bear Bash. It was entitled Our twenty year homecoming reunion. For a lot of us it was a homecoming, as we have been coming to this event, which is one of the largest Corvette events on the West Coast, for years. For Glenda and myself this is our eighth year in attendance. Every year the event is loaded with lots of things to do; from just sitting around the Gray Squirrel kibitzing with our own club members or sharing stories with old friends we have met at past events. That is one thing about being a member of a club which celebrates a car which has so many other clubs with the same exact interest, you never run out of things to talk about or people to talk with. A lot of our members could not make the journey with us this year because of conflicting schedules, you were all missed, hope to see you at the Bash next year. Besides talking and spinning yarns, oh wait!, Ernie was not there. There was other things to keep you occupied. On Friday morning there was the car show at the Chamber of Commerce parking lot. It was participants choice and there was about seventy cars in attendance. I was the only one from our club to show up early enough to show my car. There were plenty of nice rides, but the one that took FIRST PLACE and BEST OF SHOW was a 1967 just fully rebuilt form the ground up and rolled off a trailer; hard to compete huh?. Friday afternoon at around three oclock started the Volley Ball tournament. We had to barrow a lady from out of the crowd to muster a team. Our team consisted of myself, Randy D, Shelly, Scott, his daughter Kristy, and our Lady from the crowd ( wish I got your name). We played against, ( cant remember who ), we lost the first game, won the second, and had them 14 to 10 when all of a sudden they found the sweet spot and beat us. Thank God we did not have to play three or more games, I was beat. Saturday found us watching Scott, Steve and Duane autocross in the parking lot at Snow Valley Ski area. Needless to say it was a tight course, a lot of gravel, and was very hard to read. There were many D.N.Fs. (Did not finish) as I said the course was very hard to read; especially if you were a beginner or a novice. Well heres a trick question; If you have 24 participants in a class, 21 D.N.F., they are awarding plaques to the top four places, what do you get? >>>>>>>> Duane gets a forth place plaque. Hooray!, I guess Duane had the best time of the 21 who D.N.Fed. As the guys watched the autocross most of the ladies shopped and swam/ sun bathed. Saturday night, after the cruise around the lake, found us at the convention center. We drank ate and had a good time. Not too much was won in the raffle, Randy D won a shift kit and Jerry won a complimentary entry for the Millard Filmore event. Sunday morning was the rally. It started at 8:30 and the last car, which I was right in front of, went out at 9:30. It was a good rally that took approximately two hours to complete and encompassed 24 miles which took us around the lake and back to the Grey Squirrel Lodge. The teams which competed did such a good job that scoring was tight. Of the 47 competitors the top six places were awarded plaques. Sixth through third place all had three and a had deductions, and their mileage broke the ties. First place only had a half point deducted from their score. Steve and Linda took home a third place plaque, congratulations. In the Poker hands, Scott and Nancy won a third place plaque and as they did last year, Bob and Karen won the best hand. Hey! What happened to the money?, no money this year just plaques. Hope to see more of our membership in attendance next year. Glenda and I want to thank Duane and Elora, Randy and Shelly, Scott and Nancy, Steve and Linda, Bob and Karen, Jerry and Georgia, and Brian and Bonnie for your support this year. We were glad to see Mark and Nonie Saturday at the autocross and lunch. And also, to Michael, who had to work Friday and Sunday, thank you for showing up on Saturday. Maybe by next year we can do some volley ball practice and field a team to kick some butt with ( Joanna we missed you).
