Saturday morning, early, around 5 AM. The sun is just starting to light the eastern sky and I need to figure out a way to get the wife up and going. Why so early, it's time for another Pomona Valley Corvette Run and on this morning we are joining another group from the Corvette Forum.
We get under way and arrived early at the meeting place in Glendora. We are the first one's there and wondering if we made an error on time and place. Within minutes other Corvettes begin to arrive. Elora and Duane opened up the back of their new '04 and started to lay out the morning breakfast of hot coffee, juice, muffins and croissants.
Wow! What a great way to start.
Over the next twenty minutes more Corvettes arrived until we had a total of fourteen cars. We would be traveling north towards Oxnard where the Otis Chandler Museum of Automobiles is located. The museum which is now named the Vintage Museum (http://www.chandlerwheels.com/) features the world famous collection of cars, motorcycles and wildlife gathered by Otis Chandler, heir to the empire created by Otis and Chandler, founder of the Los Angeles Times Mirror newspaper.
Leaving this early found traffic on the light side which was a delight to us all. The day was to be a beautiful Southern California day, the kind
that prompts folks
After our brief stop we hop back onto the highway to finish our drive. It's about five more miles to the museum and the other Corvettes from the Forum.
The museum was a lot of fun and I'm sure several of us saw that one special car that we have always dreamed of. This road trip also gave us an opportunity to see old friends and make new ones.
As the day wore on I overheard some of the gang mention they were hungry. Well it is getting on to noon and we have a reputation to up-hold. So it's out the doors and off on another adventure of finding a place to have lunch. Marilyn and her GPS, I think we're going to have to start calling her Mrs. Gadget, found us a restaurant at the local airport. With over twenty people showing up for lunch we kind of swamped the chef. While the service was slow the food was good, just ask Steve. After lunch most everyone headed home but a few of the more adventurers decided to head on up towards Fillmore for more driving and fun.
The day has now come to an end and we all said so-long until the next one.
