The Painted Turtle – Pinewood Derby Races

July 21, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

Free

The folks at The Painted Turtle ( The Painted Turtle ) have invited the club to participant in this year’s pinewood derby races which are part of the camp’s Hemophilia Week.   This week kids with hemophilia and related blood disorders come together and enjoy a chance to be normal kids.

During the kids will be making their pinewood derby cars to race on the special race track set up in the gym on Saturday.  The club will provide trophies for the winners of the race.  Of course the kids love to have us come out, so they get a chance to see the Corvettes up close and even sit in them.  Of course it is always a guess as to how long will it be before one of the kids find the horn.   🙂

So we’ll meet at Logan’s Roadhouse at Baseline and the 15 Fwy at 9:30 am, drivers meeting at 9:45 am and then head out.  From there we’ll head up the Fwy 15 then out across the desert (138) to Palmdale then out to the camp at Lake Hughes.   We’ll plan on arriving at the camp about 11:45, we’ll get the cars parked and then go have lunch with the kids.  And sing along with the kids (singing is optional), a few of the camp songs that the kids have learned.   After lunch we’ll do a tour of the camp and then about 2:30 the kids will come down for the races.

This is a special place where kids with some serious disorders get a chance to just have fun.   The club has been supporting the camp since 2003, actually the year before it opened.

After we are all done, we’ll find a place for dinner if you are up for some more fun with the group.
