My Childhood Dream
This corvette has had only one owner since its original purchase in 1979. I got married
in 1977. I got my vette in 1979. Two wives and thirty years later, the Vette is still
here!! Now i have been given the opportunity to make her better than she was
originally.
My wife, Erika, has named her "Amanda" but because of her unattractive former condition
she had called her “Christine". My corvette began its life as the dream car of a 23 year
old young man that had pictured having a corvette since he was about 16 years old. We
enjoyed each other's company and went everywhere together but with time "Christine"
was causing tension between me and the ladies in my life.
Classic corvettes rule !!
The first wife hated the Vette from day one. She couldn’t understand that I had my heart
set on owning a corvette since I was sixteen. Second wife had a special power over the
Vette….whenever she talked negatively about the Vette which was often…almost immediately
afterwards something would go wrong with the Vette. I think the Vette disliked my wife
more than the wife disliked the Vette!! Sadly and very, very remorsefully, I have to say
that the Vette suffered a lengthy period of major neglect. She experienced a period of
abandonment because she was always breaking down and eating my money faster than I could
earn it. During this time she somehow managed to turn into a playhouse/fort for my
nephews and my youngest child. (can’t you just visualize him using the back window as
a slide?)
I’ve been blessed with a wife today that has been supportive to my restoring my childhood
dream. The vette underwent an extreme make-over during 2008-2009. …and as you can see,
we make a great team and have made my childhood dream this beautiful Vette.
Here is hoping you enjoyed hearing about the life of this Vette as much as we enjoyed doing
the make-over.
