  IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY HOSTS RACING MEMORABILIA AUCTION TO
BENEFIT THE PAINTED TURTLE


Irwindale Speedway and the Pomona Valley Corvette Association of Southern California are joining forces to support The Painted Turtle, a camp for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses.

On Saturday, September 2, during its schedule of evening racing activities,
Irwindale Speedway and the Pomona Valley Corvette Association will host a silent auction featuring motor racing memorabilia including items donated by NASCAR Nextel drivers and teams, event ticket packages for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach and the Auto Club 500 NASCAR Nextel Cup event as well as an honorary pit crew member package with Champ Car's PKV Racing Team.

Fans will have the opportunity to preview and bid on items which will be on display in a tent located adjacent to Irwindale Speedway's main grandstand. Items will be available for bid beginning at 4 p.m. with closing bids accepted up to 8:30 p.m.

Courtney Hansen, the host of the Destination Wild television show premiering this fall on Fox Sports and host of Spike TV Network's Powerblock series of automotive related shows which airs on Saturday and Sunday, will be the Grand Marshal of the event and present during the silent auction activities.

The Painted Turtle is the sixth addition to Paul Newman's family of Hole In the Wall Camps for seriously ill children. Opened in 2004, the camp is located in Lake Hughes, Calif. in the foothills of the Angeles National Forest just northeast of Los Angeles. The Camp features a recreation and event center, cabin village, equestrian center, arts and crafts center, ropes course, dining hall and organic farm all of which were designed to provide every child, regardless of their medical condition, the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the Camp. The Pomona Valley Corvette Association was founded in 1962 and is the Inland Empire's oldest Corvette owner's club. The Club's purpose is to bring area Corvette owners together in a manner that enhances the Corvette experience. The Club utilizes its influence to engage in various activities to raise awareness and financial support for charities like The Painted Turtle.

Irwindale Speedway is a state-of-the-art multi-purpose motor sports complex featuring half-mile and third-mile paved oval tracks and a one-eighth mile street legal drag strip. Centrally located within the Los Angeles basin and 25 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, the facility hosts NASCAR regional racing events on Saturday nights, NHRA sanctioned drag racing competition on Thursday nights, D1 and Formula Drift Drifting events and various automotive competitions.
